Kate Barrett, Vice President for Public Involvement, has been managing and staffing civic engagement and community outreach projects for Regina Villa Associates (RVA) for more than 13 years.  Kate manages many of RVA's water and wastewater and transportation infrastructure projects.  She works closely with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, regional initiatives and several communities, including Falmouth for its Wind Energy Facilities Project.  She also serves as administrator of the Massachusetts Coalition for Water Resources Stewardship, a statewide coalition of municipalities and publicly owned water and wastewater utilities working to make state and federal water resources policies and regulations more environmentally and fiscally sustainable. 

 

Kate’s public involvement and outreach efforts  include organizing and staffing public and interagency meetings; drafting press releases and preparing fact sheets, flyers and other public education and information materials; working with team members on strategic planning, identifying key stakeholders, and implementing media and outreach plans; drafting and distributing e-blasts advisories and updates to residents and businesses affected by construction projects; and drafting content, coordinating development and updating interactive websites. 

 

Current projects include the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation, Whittier Bridge/I-95 Improvement, Anderson Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation, and I-93 Safety Improvements & Tri-Town Interchange projects (MassDOT); the Reserved Channel Sewer Separation Project and projects in Newmarket Square, Dudley Square and on Newbury Street (Boston Water and Sewer Commission); Capital Improvement Program outreach (Town of Framingham); Massachusetts Coalition for Water Resources Stewardship management; Vehicle Maintenance and Operations Facility project (Worcester Regional Transit Authority); Wind Energy Facilities Project communications (Falmouth); and water resources management plans for the towns of Mashpee and Dartmouth. 

 

Kate has also managed several statewide conferences including the Massachusetts Coalition for Water Resources Stewardship’s Annual Clean Water Act Symposium, the Massachusetts Regional Conferences on Pandemic Preparedness (5), and 13 regional Medicare Part D information sessions.

 

Kate received her MPA from Suffolk University in 2008.  She is trained in facilitation, collaborative processes and mediation.  Prior to joining RVA, Kate ran her own business as a community and press relations consultant to municipalities and community organizations on environmental, historic preservation and community development projects.
